Spotlight on International Students: My Stay in the USA

January 24, 2025 by Katherine Zuber

Hello, my name is Elena. I’m 15 years old. I live in Nuremberg in Germany. I’m staying for 5-6 months in America. I’m staying at the Kimberton Waldorf school and I’m really enjoying it. The things I like about this school is, it’s not that big, the teachers are very nice and so are the students. The teachers are happy to help you, if you have any problems in school. I feel very welcomed in this school and everyone knows everyone. I like my class, they are also very interested in how it is in Germany and they ask me a lot of questions.

One of my favorite part in the 3 months I’ve been here was the Odyssey trip. It is one of the best things that can happen to you as an exchange student. You get to know the class even better, especially if you’re new. I made a lot of friends during the class trip.

Now to my Host family. It is very interesting to live in a new culture, with people you don’t and to get to know the new family. My Host family told me that they are happy to show me as many this as possible. They took me to New York City, which was a fun experience. We went to an amusement park. We went to Ocean City in New Jersey etc. They also have plans for the future.

Things that have been hard for me: In Germany I can ride my bike or take public transportation which is not possible here. Well, you can ride your bike, but it is very dangerous. It’s very different in America. Someone has to drive me every time I want to go somewhere which can sometimes be difficult because of the family schedule.

I would recommend everyone to do an exchange, you can learn so many things which can be hard but also fun.
