Each year, as our seniors step into their final year together, they make their way to Hermit Island in coastal Maine for a week of learning, exploration, connection, and adventure.
Joining 12th-grade students from Waldorf schools across the region, our seniors study the remarkable life of the Maine coast: from lobsters and barnacles to sea stars, clams, snails, squids, and countless other creatures. The students also capture some of the beauty in their watercolor sea-scape lab. In the poetry lab, the students create personal pieces of writing while reflecting on the beauty and emotions brought up in such a magical place.
And beyond the classroom, there are sandy beaches, warm September waters, cool nights around the campfire, new friendships, and the simple joy of being together in a beautiful place. Thank you Hermit Island! Here’s to an incredible year, class of 2027.
