How beautiful it has been to return to KWS as a parent after almost twenty years away! I attended KWS from first through eighth grade and prior to that spent three years at Larkspur, a Waldorf preschool/kindergarten located in Kimberton Hills. The nurturing environment and thoughtful attention to the development of the whole child that Waldorf education offers coupled with my many positive memories of this special community led me and my husband to send our oldest daughter, Lily, to Rosebud Garden.
As Lily enters her second year at Rosebud, something that has become increasingly apparent about Waldorf education is how timeless it is from one generation to the next. The classroom alone is such a comfort as it calls to mind my own early childhood classroom with its warmth, beauty and intentional use of natural materials. KWS has been celebrating the festival of Michaelmas, a celebration of the Archangel Michael and his courage against a dragon. Lily was eager to share how the festival was celebrated in Rosebud – the baking of dragon bread and the dying of golden silks. Again, I was met with memories of my own celebrations of Michaelmas beginning in early childhood. It was so special to relay these memories to Lily and to see her awe in this connection we share. I look forward to making more of these connections with Lily and soon Clara, our younger daughter.
It has been such a pleasure to share the beauty of KWS with Lily, Clara and my husband, Joe. We greatly appreciate the school’s commitment to preserving the reverence and joy of childhood and its warm, welcoming environment. What a blessing to be a part of this community once again!
