10th Grade Odyssey Trip: James River, Canoeing, Reflects on Homer and the Northern Lights!

October 16, 2024 by Kimberton Waldorf School

The 10th grade returned last Friday from their week-long Odyssey on the Upper James River in west-central Virginia. Over three sunny days, they paddled 35 miles over several class 1 and 2 rapids. They even successfully tackled the infamous class-3 Balcony Falls!
Every evening around the campfire, the class reflected on the natural observations they made throughout the day, recalled good deeds performed by classmates and compared their experiences with those of Odysseus.
On Thursday night, the surprise appearance of the aurora borealis blazing over the meadow made for a beautiful cap to a memorable week!

-Jake Strevig, Life Sciences Teacher, Class Advisor, Outdoor Program Leader
