Bringing Joy to Orphans
Since 2003, the Tashirat Orphanage has been a home to more than 30 abandoned and abused children. At Tashirat, they are provided a family style home life that is full of love and beauty. The children are encouraged to shine as individuals to unleash their inner beauty and talents. (To learn more, visit www.tashirat.com/orphanage-school.)
Three 11th graders and one parent from the Kimberton Waldorf School will be traveling to the orphanage this summer to teach the older children how to make Waldorf dolls for the younger children and themselves. The Kimberton group will stay about two weeks to engage the children, learn from them, and work the land as well.
Tashirat Orphanage does not receive any government support – it runs entirely on donations and its efforts in self-sustainability. The group will pay for their flight, room and board
Helena Hewitt, Annie Jones and Kathryn Miles will be organizing ongoing fundraising efforts from selling handmade items to holding garage sales to raise the funds to cover the expenses for this trip, but most importantly, to purchase the materials to make the dolls. Here is a list of supplies needed to make the dolls. If you would consider donating any of the supplies, or purchasing them on Weir dolls, the group would be extremely grateful. Weir dolls will ship directly to the girls, but if you have items you would like to donate directly, there will be a box in the high school and another in the gym foyer. Items needed for Jamaican Service Project and Tag Sale
In June, seven folks from Kimberton will be going to to work at a camp for Jamaican children and do construction work at an orphanage there. We would like to bring some things to donate to the camp, especially art supplies, balls and other sports equipment, and good picture books. If you have any extra crayons, modelling beeswax, watercolor paints, brushes, scissors, string, or other art supplies in good condition, or jumpropes, balls, or other sports or games equipment, please put them in the box outside the 10th grade classroom.
Also, in order to raise money for the trip, there will be a tag sale at the Kimberton CSA during the hours of the KWS May Faire. If you have any items to donate to the tag sale, please put them in the CSA pickup shed (across the street from the high school parking lot.) Now is your chance to do some spring cleaning for a good cause and move on some of your outgrown clothes, toys, books, and other (non-electronic) items. Please contact Martha Cownap with any questions at . Thanks!

WHERE IS MY MUSE? An Introduction to Clowning
Clowning is a state of playfulness that allows us to experience a child-like, naïve and vulnerable state of being . . . and paradoxically we learn, grow, and are strengthened through reconnecting playfully with what makes us most vulnerable.
This approach to clowning is not a technique (tricks, gags and routines), but a personal journey towards finding one’s unique way of being — by listening and being receptive, essential skills for any creative and imaginative endeavor. It is only in letting go of control that we begin to be surprised by the depth of that which is around us and within us. Please call or email to register.
