KWS Garden Building
Many people visit Kimberton Waldorf School and say, “I wish that I went to school here!” Most of us have experienced a more traditional education in which information is provided, many times in large doses, to help us ace a test. At Kimberton Waldorf School, where children are engaged learners, they develop their own lesson books, demonstrating the depth of their understanding and the confidence that they gain. Carmen’s session will give you and opportunity to experience this wonderful way of learning and participating.

John Holmes, one of Kimberton Waldorf School’s prized eurythmysts, will be offering a talk entitled An Introduction to Eurythmy for the Lower School. Space will be limited so please register early by calling 610.933-3635 x128. This is an extraordinary opportunity for our community to learn from such an experienced Waldorf teacher.
“Movement is life's own language. Every moment we breathe is filled with rhythm. Our feelings, thoughts and inspirations have gestures that are matched in the forms we find in the world. It is one of the great mysteries that inner experience and outer form come from the same source. Recognition of this connection sits just beyond our conscious awareness. Yet, we depend on it to make our way through life. We learn to read the world and other people through the language of movement... alongside the language of sound. Form - movement - language, all "sound" the essential nature of the world in different ways. Eurythmy is a movement art that brings all three together. It gives expression to the whole voice of the human being and the world language, through movement, color and form. When this integration takes place through eurythmy, the spiritual nature behind each living thing begins to have a clear voice - a visible reality. The living mysteries that form our body, our soul, the stars and the seas speak their names in the gestures of language and life. Eurythmy brings these gestures into a rich, expressive art form.” From Eurythmy Spring Valley Website

Lower School Handwork Room
Our hands allow us to touch, feel and communicate, and they provide the means to create. Here at Kimberton Waldorf School, students experience tremendous satisfaction in this act of creation. The living quality of natural fibers, the feel of different textures and the experience of colors enrich their observation and expand their awareness.
Knitting and other handwork subjects play an important role in the development of fine motor skills and the fostering of concentration and focus. The cultivation of concentration serves as a foundation for problem-solving in later life.
Tjitske will give many more details about handwork in the curriculum and why it is so vital for our children. Limited to 10 attendees. RSVP required: 610.933.3635 x128.

THIS CLASS IS NOW FULL. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST!
Are you interested in getting started in beekeeping this spring but don’t know how to begin? Or are you just curious about what is involved and want to learn more? Come to the Kimberton Waldorf School Garden Building on Saturday, February 20 and learn about how and why people keep bees. We will look at the traditional Langstroth hive and its parts and assembly. We will discuss exactly what you need to buy and where to buy it. You will learn which pieces of equipment are necessary and which are nice extras. You will also be given resources for where to get everything you need, even the bees! Plus everyone will learn how to build a frame and insert the wax foundation.
Bring your questions! This class is open to everyone over 12 years old, but children under 14 must be accompanied by a parent.
Bees and beekeeping became an integral component to the gardening program in spring 2009.
Celia Martin has been a parent in the school for many years but took the helm of the gardening program beginning in September 2008. She graduated from Penn State with a degree in Agricultural Education, focusing on horticulture. Martin completed the Beginning Beekeeping course offered by Montgomery County Cooperative Extension as well as a two day Organic Beekeeping Course in New York. She currently tends four bee hives at her home along with the school’s two-acre garden.
Please join us in a warm and intimate setting for our third coffeehouse. There will be a community stage from 6:30-7:30, and professional performances will begin at 8pm. Mark your calendars and don't miss out on seeing Mike Biddison live!
The December Dad's Night Out was 'snowed out' and has been rescheduled! Plan to meet at Andrew Kreider's home in Phoenixville. Pizza and snacks, beverages warm and cold, and lively conversation will be shared around the warmth of the fireplace. Please RSVP to Mary Hirsch at 610-933-3635 x. 106 so we can plan for an appropriate amount of food and drink.
