Bill Wiedmann is co-owner of Kestrel Growth Brands, Inc. which markets branded high-end natural foods and ingredients to customers around the world. Bill will discuss the fair trade model that he and his co-founder developed to allow farmers to share the profit generated by the final sale of their products. He will illustrate how this method results in a cooperative rather than an adversarial producer/supplier relationship that is completely sustainable because it benefits all the parties involved. Bill will share photos and stories from his trips to the vanilla producing regions of Papua, New Guinea and will discuss the cultivation and curing process for vanilla along with some of the fascinating history of how it has changed from a food reserved for royalty to the universal flavor it is today. After the talk you will never consider vanilla to be “plain” again!

Many people visit Kimberton Waldorf School and say, “I wish that I went to school here!” Most of us have experienced a more traditional education in which information is provided, many times in large doses, to help us ace a test. At Kimberton Waldorf School, where children are engaged learners, they develop their own lesson books, demonstrating the depth of their understanding and the confidence that they gain. Carmen’s session will give you and opportunity to experience this wonderful way of learning and participating.
