The sports program at Kimberton Waldorf School begins in sixth grade and continues through 12th grade. In the middle school, the emphasis is on teaching the basic skills of each sport and giving each student a chance to participate. Although skill development continues into the high school years, students begin to develop a deeper understanding of the strategy of play on both defense and offence. Underlying our entire program is a strong emphasis on teamwork, good sportsmanship, respect for officials and respect for each other. The program is voluntary at Kimberton. Although students have to do one after school activity per year in the high school, sports are only one of a number of activities students may choose from.
Girls’ Tennis (Fall), Volleyball, Soccer (Fall), Lacrosse (Spring), Field Hockey (Fall), Boys’ Tennis (Spring), Basketball (Winter)
Middle School Program: Most sports at Kimberton start in the Middle School in the fall we have soccer for boys and field hockey for girls; in the winter we have a girls and boys basketball team; and in the spring we offer lacrosse for boys and girls. Teams practice three times a week and participate in a small league of independent schools in our area.
High School Program: All of the the above sports continue into the high school program. Our tennis program officially starts in ninth grade. Students in eighth grade are permitted to play on the high school team. In addition, we offer co-ed volleyball as an intramural activity two times per week during the winter. There is a volleyball tournament for student in the upper grades and occasional matches during the season for those students who want some competition with other schools in the area. The volleyball program attracts the most students.
